Lately, I’ve felt anxious – which is both good and bad.
Anytime I’m not doing anything, I feel like I should be doing something. Reading a book. Reviewing exercises. Brainstorming new articles. Reading other fitness blogs. Flossing. Whatever.
And oftentimes, that’s good.
If I didn’t try to maximize my time and be productive, I wouldn’t have passed my CSCS exam so quickly. I wouldn’t have connected with many phenomenal people. Who knows – I might still be unemployed.
Other the other hand, constantly working gets exhausting.
And that’s bad.
Don’t get me wrong, I sincerely enjoy what I do — I wish I switched to fitness years ago. But I’m learning that I can’t go all-out all the time. Every now and then, I need to schedule some quality R&R.
This past week, I invited a few friends from Costa Rica to stay at my house and showed them around Los Angeles. And boy, at times, I felt like I was on vacation. Sometimes, it’s nice to play tourist in your own city. (Even though we locals typically loathe them).
I strove to put aside all my concerns and pressures for a few days and make *having fun* my top priority. And it was awesome.
I felt lighter, felt happier at work, and even slept deeper.
Cool sights, long meals, and good friends are just some of the many ways to unwind. And although running around LA can be stressful – especially during peak hours – when it’s for the right reasons, it’s pretty fun.
Now I’m ready to get back to work. And floss.
